01

The Structure That Should Not Exist

Sylke has catalogued more pre-Breaking ruins than any living archivist. She knows what construction from that era looks like — its materials, its tolerances, its failure points. When she finds the structure half-buried in the eastern shelf, her first instinct is not wonder. It is wrongness. The materials are pre-Breaking. The design is not. Someone built something using the old world's resources according to specifications that could only have been drawn up knowing exactly what was coming.

02

The Contents

What is inside the structure is not a weapon, not a cache of resources, not a survival bunker. It is a library — but not one built for general preservation. Every document, every recorded fragment, every carefully sealed container of information inside is specifically about one subject: the energy system that would eventually manifest in people like Sylke. Whoever built this knew about Verve energy. They knew about it before it existed. And they addressed their work, in no uncertain terms, to whoever found the ability to weave.

03

The Question It Raises

Sylke spends three days inside the structure before she emerges. She tells no one what she found for a further two weeks. When she finally reports to Verve leadership, she presents an edited version of her findings — thorough, accurate, and deliberately incomplete. The part she keeps to herself is the part that changes everything about what she thought she was doing and why.
